The worship environment places singers in a unique position. They are often highly visible to the congregation without being performers, while needing both the vocal skill to use their voice well and the freedom to worship authentically.

For many singers, particularly those who are not the worship leader, this can raise an important question: What is my voice actually here to do? They may not choose the key or arrangement, speak to the congregation or determine what part they sing, yet they are still responsible for singing skilfully while participating authentically in the gathered worship of the Church.
